Sam Hemming - Jewellery

Having learnt basic skills from expert American Beadworker Sarah Klopping in her early 20s, Sam taught herself Indigenous American and African bead-weaving techniques and within months had made her first sales in the ‘Fine Jewellery Dept.’ at Liberty London.

Inspired by the nature, shape and vibrancy of the beads and natural stone cabochons, she hand weaves and sews earrings, chokers, necklaces and brooches. Colour interaction continues to fascinate and is a strong contributing factor to her designs. Sam endeavours to create high quality adornment which reflects the time and effort put into the fine details, drawing from her extensive collection of Japanese and Czech glass seed beads, Freshwater pearls, gemstones and vintage buttons and ephemera. Her work has a vintage and tactile quality.

Sam has been an active exhibiting member of the Worcestershire Guild since 1993, and has exhibited throughout the UK at such shows as ‘Made by Hand’ Cardiff and ‘Craft in Focus’ shows, as well as selling from galleries as far afield as Hay-on-Wye to Japan.

Ultimately she loves seeing her pieces on others. The emotional connection when jewellery finds its right owner is something she takes great pleasure in.
