Nick Helme - Sculptor
I was born and raised on a Herefordshire farm, which gave me my first interest in nature and the countryside. I then went on to do a Special Honours Degree in Zoology and Botany at Sheffield University. This gave me new insights and a greater understanding into the complexities that make up the “Beauty that is Nature”. This is my inspiration!
I went on to travel the world extensively for the next two years, further enhancing and broadening my knowledge. I then immersed myself in the family farm until I then attended an art foundation course at Hereford Art College. Now rejuvenated and re-inspired I set out to and proceeded to put my newly honed skills to good use.
In my work I try to capture a moment in that life or a movement, an expression, fight, flee, flight, fear, love – an emotion - that will hopefully create a bond, an understanding, a melding of the moment with the viewer. I have many influences which have helped inspire my works, but not one thing that is specific, except Nature herself.
I have exhibited in numerous art shows and galleries throughout Herefordshire and beyond. These include the NEC Birmingham, the Corn Exchange Edinburgh and the Cork Street Gallery in London. My work now appears in private collections in the UK and abroad.
