ARTIST’S STATEMENT

My interest in reusing fragments of the past goes back to my childhood memories as a magpie child digging for pirate’s treasure on my Dad’s allotment. Also, the influence of my frugal parents, who married during WW2, reusing and mending every possible useful scrap.

The process of making is intensely interesting to me.

I set myself new challenges, then work out how to achieve the solutions through trial and error experimentation

I love to mix different media, and I enjoy transforming scraps of vintage treasures into completely new pieces.

My influences include

Nostalgia

Nature

Mythology

…. and the imaginative use of precious and ordinary materials in the tremendous costume jewellery of Miriam Haskell,  the playful surrealism of Elsa Schaiparelli,

and strong female icons such as Frida Kahlo and Josephine Baker.

I hope that my pieces amuse, please & provoke memories
