Craig Dodds - Photographer

Craig works as a commercial photographer but outside of this his artistic style is very different. His creativity is driven by his sense of freedom and impulse to discover unusual places.  His aim is not only to creatively capture an image but the experience itself; evoking thought and intrigue.  Craig uses various camera formats from digital to analogue.

Artist’s statement

My goal is to tell compelling visual stories through photography.

I found my passion for photography early in life while spending long days exploring new surroundings with my friends in Ireland. Capturing those moments and gradually learning how to get to grips with bigger and better cameras led me to study Media at College.  This helped hone my skills and develop my own style whilst learning the art of analogue photography.

I have 15 years’ experience offering commercial photography services but away from this my artistic style is very different.

My approach to photography is definitely not traditional, I don’t want my images to be too contrived, I want them to evoke the imagination, to bring out unfamiliar emotions in the viewer.

Photography combined with my passion for discovering new places and their history has transformed how I shot and interpret the world around me.   I work with various camera formats from digital to analogue. I tend to lean towards point and shoot cameras as I find they’re well suited for travel and subtlety.
